w8track is now Twitter-enabled

I’ve been working diligently for the past several days trying to get the w8track application integrated with Twitter. I’m pleased to announce you can now record your weight by sending a direct message from any device you use to Twitter.

Getting started is really simple. Just log into Twitter and follow the w8track profile. Within a few minutes, the w8track bot will follow you back on Twitter. If you haven’t used w8track before, you’re done. If you’ve used w8track before and you want to associate your Twitter account with your existing account, send a direct message on Twitter to w8track using the following format:

secret youraccountsecretkey

Obviously, you’ll replace the letters after the word “secret” with your real account secret key. And you were probably wondering why I added the secret key feature last night, weren’t you?

To record your weight, send a direct message on Twitter to w8track. You’ll want to format it like this:

168.6 lb

You can record your weight in pounds (lb), kilograms (kg), or stones (st). The default is pounds.

If you want to record your weight for the previous day, use the following format for your direct message:

169.8 lb yesterday

By the way, once you’ve specified a unit of measure, it’ll become the default. You’ll only need to specify pounds, kilograms, or stones the first time you enter your weight. The next time you enter your weight, you can simply send the number:

168.2

I’d love to hear your thoughts about this new feature, including feedback on any problems it’s giving you. This is the first project I’ve Twitter-enabled, and I’m pretty excited about it. In the near future, I’m hoping at least to add a delete feature, so that you can remove an incorrect weight that you’ve added by mistake. Stay tuned!
